Night Watch

A one-sentence review: if you have the slightest interest in gothic-punk urban fantasy, Night Watch (Ночной дозор) is the real fucking deal.

An alternate one-sentence review: You only wished your Shadowrun games could be like this. Among many other things, that neon-yellow Russian utility truck makes the coolest movie batmobile ever.

This is the third time a friend of mine has mentioned Nightwatch in three weeks! The other two were Russians, though, so I still wasn't sure if there was a version with English subtitles... I presume that your post means that such a version exists?

Aw, Netflix doesn't have it yet! Where did you get it?

A subtitled version now exists, with the subtitles actually done with interesting flair. At appropriate moments they dissolve into blood, or smoke, or move around the screen to follow the action. It's interesting to see them treated as a fully-fledged piece of the movie, not something pasted on by a third party.
